WNBA Stats Explained: Box Score Terms, Efficiency, and Team Context
POPROT / WNBA / STATS
WNBA box scores are easiest to read when you know what each number is trying to explain. This guide keeps the basics in one place and links back into PopRot’s WNBA hubs.
The core counting stats
- PTS: points scored from field goals and free throws.
- REB: rebounds, usually split into offensive and defensive boards.
- AST: passes that directly lead to a made basket.
- STL and BLK: defensive events that show disruption, timing, and rim protection.
- TO: turnovers, which show lost possessions.
Shooting splits
Field-goal percentage, three-point percentage, and free-throw percentage show how efficiently a player or team converts different kinds of shots. A scorer with strong volume and efficient splits is usually carrying a larger offensive burden than a scorer who needs many attempts to reach the same point total.
Team context matters
A stat line is not complete without role and pace. A team that plays fast creates more possessions. A bench creator may post smaller totals but have a major impact in shorter minutes. PopRot stat posts should read the numbers alongside team role, matchup, and season context.
