Original summary
The premiere brings the Medicine Seller to an inn where Shino, a pregnant traveler in danger, is hidden in a room that carries the weight of children who were never protected. The case teaches viewers that a mononoke is solved by uncovering buried truth, not by swinging first.
What happens and why it matters
This chapter belongs to the Zashiki Warashi case. Instead of treating the spirit as a simple enemy, the episode turns rooms, objects, witness statements, and fear into evidence. The Medicine Seller watches for contradictions, waits until the shape of the haunting becomes legible, and pushes the people around him toward the truth that gives the mononoke power. The opening inn story makes shelter itself frightening: a woman seeks safety, the building hides older violence, and the spirits force the adults to face what the room remembers.
