AIDA and Epitaph Users in Returner
.hack//G.U. Returner uses power-system ideas from the wider G.U. story, but it presents them through a small symbolic incident rather than a full battle. The key concepts are AIDA, Epitaph Users, and character classes inside The World R:2.
AIDA
AIDA stands for Artificially Intelligent Data Anomaly in the .hack setting. In the broader G.U. story, AIDA are linked to infections, black spots, corrupted behavior, and unexplained incidents inside The World R:2. Returner complicates that by showing an AIDA Chim Chim that appears non-hostile. Its behavior suggests that not every anomaly has to be treated as an enemy when the situation can be understood.
Epitaph Users
Characters such as Haseo, Ovan, Atoli, Yata, Pi, Kuhn, Sakubo, and Endrance carry Epitaph User context from G.U. Their Avatars and phases matter more in the games and main conflict than in this short OVA, but Returner benefits from that history because the audience knows these are not ordinary casual players.
