Original summary

The film follows Doraemon before his classic role in Nobita’s life. He begins as a yellow robot cat in the 22nd century, suffers a series of failures and accidents, loses his ears to mice, and breaks down emotionally before finding a new direction through the Nobi family. The story turns a familiar comedy character into someone shaped by insecurity and loyalty.

Detailed what-happens recap

Doraemon is manufactured in the future, but the process does not go smoothly. A lightning strike and factory trouble leave him less polished than the other robot cats, setting up his anxiety about being defective. He still finds companionship and a place in the wider robot world, especially through Dorami and Noramyako, but his confidence remains fragile.

The key turning point comes when mice damage Doraemon’s ears. The incident is played with broad cartoon energy, yet it explains one of his most famous traits: his intense fear of mice. When Noramyako laughs at his altered look, Doraemon spirals into grief. He cries so intensely that his original yellow coloring fades, leaving the blue Doraemon associated with the main franchise.

The movie then redirects that sadness toward purpose. Sewashi Nobi needs a way to help his ancestor Nobita, whose choices affect the Nobi family’s future. Doraemon, imperfect but deeply loyal, becomes the one sent back through time. The origin therefore ends not with Doraemon being fixed, but with his imperfections becoming part of why he is trusted.
