AIDA, Avatars, and The World R:2 Powers in .hack//G.U. Returner

POPROT / ANIME / .HACK//G.U. RETURNER / POWERS & ABILITIES
The World R:2 as the power system
Returner inherits its power logic from The World R:2, where player classes, avatars, weapons, and system anomalies all shape what characters can do. The OVA is lighter than the main G.U. storyline, but the terminology still matters because the emotional stakes come from earlier encounters with AIDA and Avatar-level danger.
AIDA in Returner
The AIDA Chim Chim is the most important supernatural/system element in the OVA. Instead of becoming a straightforward monster threat, it is tied to the theme of coexistence. That makes it a softer but meaningful echo of the AIDA incidents that defined the larger G.U. era.
Classes and combat identities
Characters such as Haseo and Ovan carry their established class identities into Returner. Haseo is associated with the flexible Adept Rogue path, while Ovan is remembered as a powerful Steam Gunner. The OVA does not pause to reteach every mechanic, so PopRot recommends watching it after the G.U. material that explains those identities.
