Summary
Balsa makes preparations to leave the capital with Chagum. She must leave the city without being noticed; a task made difficult by the prince who has overcome with the grief of leaving his family. The Emperor dispatches four secret hunters to recover the prince and kill Balsa.
What happens in the episode
This chapter advances the protector-and-prince road story while keeping the stakes grounded. Balsa’s choices are measured against Chagum’s vulnerability, the imperial system looking for him, and the spirit-world truth that the court does not fully understand.
Read through the lens of the full series, Episode 2 matters because Moribito rarely separates action from consequence. A chase, a conversation, or a survival problem can all reveal how Chagum is changing from a protected prince into someone who understands fear, hunger, and responsibility.
