Original summary

The opening OVA chapter drops viewers into late-series momentum: Tenma is still emotionally fixed on Karasuma, Harima still struggles to translate feeling into honest action, and the class comedy keeps colliding with an unusually final mood. It works as a catch-up sprint rather than a clean reintroduction.

What happens in the episode

The episode uses the familiar School Rumble pattern of sincere confession energy being interrupted by comic timing, pride, bad luck, and classmates who turn private feelings into public chaos. Tenma’s directness, Harima’s stubbornness, Eri’s guarded reactions, Yakumo’s quiet insight, and Karasuma’s unusual distance all matter because the OVA has very little time to restate the status quo.

Rather than functioning as a standard weekly school comedy episode, episode 1 feels like part of a compressed finale package. The important takeaway is the emotional direction: relationships that once ran in circles are now being pushed toward acknowledgement, separation, or unresolved-but-changed acceptance.
