Summary

Miyori, an eleven-year-old girl hurt by family instability, is sent to live with her grandmother near a rural forest. What first feels like abandonment becomes a strange invitation: the forest is alive with spirits and memory, and Miyori slowly learns that noticing them also means accepting responsibility for the place they protect.

What happens in the movie

The film follows Miyori’s shift from self-protection to connection. At first, the rural setting feels like one more decision made without her consent. Encounters with the forest’s spirits change that frame: the woods stop being background and become a community with needs, history, and fear of human destruction. Miyori’s emotional arc and the environmental plot run together, because caring about the forest requires her to care about something outside the pain that brought her there.

Watch or skip?

Watch if you like quiet fantasy, environmental anime, and coming-of-age stories where emotional healing is tied to place. Skip only if you need fast action or a long serialized plot; Miyori no Mori works as a self-contained mood-and-theme movie.
