Mirai Story Arc Roadmap
The film has one continuous plot, but it moves through clear emotional arcs: Kun’s displacement after Mirai’s birth, Yukko’s jealousy mirror, the childhood-mother lesson, the great-grandfather courage sequence, and the station/family-tree climax.
Arc 1: The New Baby Changes the House
Kun reads Mirai’s arrival as a loss of status. This opening arc is deliberately domestic: crying, scolding, toys, chores, and parental exhaustion set the stakes before any fantasy appears.
Arc 2: The Garden Makes Feelings Visible
The magical garden externalizes emotions that Kun cannot explain. Each visitor makes one family relationship easier to understand, especially jealousy, responsibility, and inherited courage.
Arc 3: The Family Tree Becomes the Adventure
The climax turns family history into a map. Kun’s task is not defeating a villain; it is recognizing his own place in a chain of choices and care.
