Original summary
The Ochou case concludes by making the emotional reason for the haunting impossible to ignore. Its horror comes from the gap between the life a person performs and the self that still wants to be heard.
What happens and why it matters
This chapter belongs to the Faceless Monster case. Instead of treating the spirit as a simple enemy, the episode turns rooms, objects, witness statements, and fear into evidence. The Medicine Seller watches for contradictions, waits until the shape of the haunting becomes legible, and pushes the people around him toward the truth that gives the mononoke power. The Ochou case shifts horror inward, using masks, marriage expectations, and fractured selfhood to ask whether a life can become a prison before the supernatural ever appears.
