Arc 1: The new-baby shock

Kun’s first conflict is simple and painfully believable: baby Mirai changes the household’s gravity. His parents are more tired, routines shift, and attention no longer flows only toward him. This is not a villain arc; it is the ordinary panic of a child who cannot yet separate love from constant attention.

Arc 2: Yukko and the feeling of being replaced

Yukko’s fantasy material gives Kun a comic double. The dog was once the adored small creature in the house too. By seeing Yukko’s jealousy, Kun gets a sideways view of his own behavior before he is ready to admit it directly.

Arc 3: Future Mirai and sibling perspective

Future Mirai reframes the baby as someone with a voice, personality, and future. Kun can argue, cooperate, and scheme with her in a way he cannot with the infant in the crib. The sibling relationship becomes active instead of abstract.

Arc 4: Parents as former children

The film’s time crossings are not only about wonder. Seeing earlier versions of family members helps Kun understand that parents are not fixed authority figures. They were children, partners, and imperfect people before he knew them.

Arc 5: The train-station identity test

The station sequence turns Kun’s train obsession into an emotional map. Names, routes, and destinations matter because Kun must choose connection over isolation. The arc resolves when he can name himself as Mirai’s brother instead of seeing her only as a rival.
