Jiya Character Guide

Manmaru the Ninja Penguin official key art hosted by PopRot

Who they are

Jiya is the old man who brings Manmaru into the mountain ninja conflict. His role is less about flashy action and more about setting the trainees on the path that drives the comedy.

Personality and role

As mentor and instigator, Jiya connects the 300-year clan dispute to the young animal trainees. He is the character who makes the premise move: without him, Manmaru remains a penguin chasing a soccer dream rather than a ninja recruit.

Abilities and story relevance

This series treats “abilities” as light comedy ninja training rather than battle-system power scaling. The character matters because their animal personality changes the rhythm of every lesson: Manmaru softens it, Tanutaro escalates it, Tsunejiro worries through it, and Jiya frames it.

Key facts

Source note: PopRot researched this guide from TV Asahi’s program guide, Anime News Network encyclopedia data, and the English Wikipedia/Wikidata summary of Ninpen Manmaru. No anime-specific Fandom wiki was found for this property during this run, and AniList/Kitsu access was unavailable or incomplete, so episode-level scene recaps are intentionally source-limited rather than invented.
